What RACE Omusati does:

  • We train teachers in Grades 6-12 to be knowledgeable about HIV and AIDS, to be AIDS Awareness Club facilitators at their schools, and to be role models within their communities.
  • We train teachers in Grades 1-5 to be facilitators for the Window of Hope program, a self-esteem and HIV & AIDS awareness program for young learners.
  • We provide support to teachers and schools as they conduct HIV and AIDS-related educational activities through:
    - school visits
    - distribution of HIV and AIDS educational materials (leaflets, posters, videos) and incentive materials
    - distribution of male and female condoms
    - production of an HIV and AIDS newsletter
    - lists of activities and local resources/organizations
  • We distribute First Aid kits to schools, as well as provide training in basic first aid and wound care.
  • We organise HIV and AIDS awareness activities for regional staff at the Ministry of Education.
  • We organise activities for National AIDS Awareness Week, World AIDS Day, Day of the Namibian Child, Human Rights Day, etc.
  • We provide educational sector employees with training in how to organise Counseling and Support Groups at learning institutions.
  • We manage the My Future is My Choice programme in the region.

What's next for RACE Omusati:

  • Monitoring and evaluating AIDS Awareness Clubs, including refresher trainings and regular school visits to functioning AIDS Awareness Clubs
  • Working with Principals to increase awareness of RACE work and their role supporting RACE activities in the region.
  • Senior Window of Hope trainings for all eligible schools.
  • Expand My Future is My Choice courses throughout the region.
  • Complete first aid kit distribution to all schools, as stipulated in the National Policy on HIV & AIDS for the Education Sector.
  • Train hostel staff on HIV prevention and the importance of "safe institutions" for learners.
  • Collaborate with regional stakeholders to improve OVC registration by creating region-wide database of OVCs.

NORTHER GIRLS CONFERENCE 2007

Goal:Bring together 8 peer leaders, 8 contact,80 participants (learners) for three days conference focusing on developing personal skills and self-esteem building.Contribute to the expasion of educational, social and economic opportunities for young females in Namibia by empowering adolescent girls to make healthy and informed decisions abut their bodies and their future.
