A high profile delegation from the Ministry of Education meets HAMU

A delegation from the Botswana Ministry of Education had a very fruitful discussion with members of the HIV and AIDS Management Unit from the Namibian Ministry of Education.

Mr M Shimhopileni, Senior Education Officer for Education Planning and Implementation, welcomed the delegation from Botswana and HAMU staff members.

Ms F Haingura, Senior Education Officer at HAMU, introduced the guests to the roles and responsibilities of HAMU and to current projects.

Dr H Heinrichs, Technical Advisor to HAMU, introduced the delegates to the communication between HAMU and the Regional AIDS Committees for Education, RACE, by e-connectivity using the HAMU website.

Ms S Poller, Global Fund Project Manager, introduced the guests to the background and achievements of the Global Fund programme at the Namibian Ministry of Education.

Subsequently a fruitful discussion started. In particular the Monitoring and Evaluation process of HIV and AIDS activites was discussed extensively. Achievements from the Botswana Education sector and the Namibian Education sector were exchanged. The Permanent Secretary from the MoE in Botswana said that their monitoring has revealed a decrease of HIV infections for 15 -19 year old youth.

However all participants expressed the need to improve monitoring and evaluation measures. Both sides could benefit from each other.

The Botswana delegation found the website as a managing and communication tool very interesting and valuable.

Both sides were very pleased with this meeting and expressed the wish for further close cooperation.
